Deer Haven Park is pleased to announce that we will be adding two weekdays to our Auto Tour schedule this summer!

Beginning June 3rd, Deer Haven Park will be open every Thursday, Friday, and Saturday through the end of the 2021 season!

RESPONDING TO VISITOR REQUESTS

Throughout 2020, Deer Haven Park received numerous requests to offer the new and popular Auto Tours during the week. Unfortunately, we were unable to expand our 2020 schedule due to the large number of volunteers it took to operate the tour. Deer Haven Park worked very hard over the winter to streamline the check-in and monitoring process. These improvements allowed the park to be open additional days during the week in 2021.

More specifically, the addition of an automated gate system has eliminated the need for a Gatekeeper and Ticket-Taker. In 2020, visitors were required to download the Deer Haven Park app to their personal mobile device. This worked well most of the time. unfortunately, the wide array of older phones and outdated operating systems caused the need for a full-time tech support team. The addition of 30 Virtual Tour Guide Tablets has essentially eliminated the need for tech support. This year, each visitor is issued a tablet, preloaded with the Deer Haven park App for use on their adventure.

ABOUT THE AUTO TOURS

The Majesty and Mystery Auto Tour is an 8-mile journey deep into the former Seneca Army Depot where we will uncover some of the mysteries of the historic munition storage base. The Seneca Army Depot played a vital role in every overseas military conflict from WWII through the first Gulf War. You’ll see the original ammunition storage igloos, gunpowder buildings, and railroads used by the US Army. See railcar loading platforms that were used to load and offload bombs and ammunition to support our troops abroad. Observe abandoned foundations and evidence of pre-1940 civilian farm life in early Seneca County. Additionally, you will have the opportunity to catch a glimpse of the Majestic Seneca white deer and American Bald Eagles that reside at Deer Haven Park!

AUTO TOUR RECAP

What:              Self-Guided Auto Tour along a predetermined route within Deer Haven Park. An included Samsung Tablet will provide the rich history of the Seneca Army Depot and reveal some of the mysteries behind the former Military Base. You’ll also have a chance to see the Majestic Seneca White Deer, American Bald Eagles and other amazing flora and fauna that call Deer Haven Park their home.

Deer Haven Park is a privately owned organization and does not accept government grants or
assistance. All Tour proceeds help pay for Habitat Improvements and Historical Preservation within the park.
